Install Dualboot Ubuntu with Windows

Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal

1. Boot the LiveCD / USB, then select Try Ubuntu

2. Ubuntu Desktop Live Natty

If your VGA mode support 3D on live then you will get a desktop like the first picture above. But if not you will be getting a classic look.Do not worry, once Ubuntu is installed to the hard disk Natty we can directly install VGA driver so that we can enjoy the new Ubuntu desktop as above who called Unity.

3. Setting up partitions for Ubuntu.

To set up the partitions we use an application called gparted which is already available in the Ubuntu Live-CD.

If you get Unity desktop just click the menu and then look for gparted. The first which we need to do is format the partition which we prepared for installation into the extended partition.

Right-click the partition and then click New. Dialog window will appear ...

Click on the Create As, select Extended Partition. If you already click Add.

We will return to the main window, click the check icon and then select Apply. Extended partition is created successfully.

4. Creating a swap partition and ext4

We have created Extended partition, but still unallocated. There we will make the partition required for the installation of Ubuntu.

Right-click on the unallocated partition and select New. Dialog window will appear as above.

Resize the partition by moving the slider on the graph to the left so get the size you want. It could also type in which the size of dimau (in MB) on the New Size. In the example I made the swap size 1024 MiB (1 GiB)

Click on the File System, then select linux-swap.

We can also give a label, on that partition. In the picture I gave a label swap.
if you already click Add. We will return to the main window gparted.

Ext4 partition for / (root)

Right click on the unallocated partition, select New. Dialog box will appear

Resize the partition by moving the slider on the graph to the left so get the size you want. It could also type in which the size of dimau (in MB) on the New Size. In the example I create a ext4 partition size 25 853 MiB (25 GiB)

Click on the File System, then select ext4.

We can also give a label, on that partition. In the picture I gave Natty label.

If you already click Add. We will return to the main window gparted.

We live that we apply the partition created by clicking the check icon in the menu bar imaginable

Preparation of the partition is complete.

5. Ubuntu Installation Process

Double click the Install Ubuntu icon that was in the desktop, it will display an installation window Ubuntu

Click Forward

Window appears which informs us that:

Have at least a space of 4.4 GB hard disk.

Connected to a power source. Recommended for notebook users to use the charger when installed so as not to cut off tiba2 due to run out of battery power.

Connected to the internet. But for me it is better not to connect to the internet to allow the installation is completed more quickly. Because if we connect to the internet then Ubuntu will try to get the update, it will take much less for which a slow Internet connection.

Below are two options which can be checked when you connect to the internet, but for me it is better not in check because the two things we can do easily after Ubuntu is installed.
Click Forward.

In the next window you will be given 3 options Installing Ubuntu:

Install Ubuntu Alongside Them. This option is for who do not want to set up its own partition, but made automatically by the Ubuntu installer.

Disk Erase and Install Ubuntu. This option will delete the entire contents of the hard disk and then install Ubuntu on that disk. This option can be used on the new hard disk / blank.

Something Else. With this choice we freely determine the location and size of the partition to install Ubuntu. It is this choice we made!
Choose Something Else, and then click Forward.

Window will appear which displays the partition table. Partisi2 there we can see that we have a hard disk partitions, including two which we prepared earlier, the swap, and ext4.I read as a Hard Disk sdb because I use two hard disks on a PC. If you use a notebook or a hard disk only, the hard disk will be read as sda. SameWhich we need to do is specify the mount point (function) of the ext4 partition only. The other partitions do not touch! The swap partition does not have to touch because we will automatically be detected.Click on the ext4 partition, then click Change.

Dialog window will appear:

Use As: Journaling Ext4 File System

The Format Partition: Select Format

Mount Point: Select /
If it is click OK.

Preparation of the partition is complete. No need to change other parts. Click Install Now.

6. Filling Personal DataSpoiler for Filling Personal Data:

Click on the folder where your location is, in the example I chose Jakarta.

Keyboard Layout. Just select the default is USA.

We offered to import the user account, but because we do not have a previous installation of Ubuntu just click Forward.

Then we just fill in name and password you want us to use. Remember do not use capital letters in the User Name!.

7. Finishing Installation.
